If you find that someone has "appropriated" specific parts of your website, such as trademarked taglines, title tags or meta tags there is action you can take to remedy this.

The first thing you should do is notify the offender. Its possible they do not realize they are using trademarked information. If they refuse to alter or remove the content, you can go to the search engines. Information online is virtually invisible if it is not able to be found online.

Trademark infringement is something that google apparently takes very seriously. Gather all your information about your customers site and document specific references of plagerism and attempted defamation in a concise email. Send this to help@google.com attn: copyright infringement.

Google is good about removing blatant search engine abusers.

The issue here is willful defamation and abuse of SERP's. You donít need copyright protection to keep someone else from harassing you and manipulating search results.

goldcougar - i dont think this counts as copying meta tags. This text in both sites is sufficiently different and while they contain similar keyphrases, the entire phrase is wholely different.

You would have to see direct copying - word for word to have an infringement case.

I've seen some results being filtered in google for copyright infingement

goto Google and do a search for - link popularity information --> scroll to the bottom of the page and you'll see what I mean... "In response to a complaint we received under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, we have removed 1 result(s) from this page. If you wish, you may read the DMCA complaint for these removed results."

naughty, naughty - looks like we found a BAD SEO.

i see the site www. professional-website-promotion-ranking.com/linkpopularity.htm and remember Debra Mastaler talking about this problem in a Highrankings.com article. In my search the site comes up intact.
