a new tag to help reduce link spam, and artificial link procurement techniques
[code:1:6f596eac88]rel="nofollow"[/code:1:6f596eac88]
full code in your link:
[code:1:6f596eac88] <a href="http://www.example.com/" rel="nofollow">[/code:1:6f596eac88]
The nofollow tag when placed on a link, will cause it to be completely ignored

| Good stuff! I was looking for a solution like this recently but just ended up making the whole page NOFOLLOW in the META tags... This is definately going to help! |

| I also use this on my site when linking to affiliate programs that I'm directing people to... it's had no effect on the link tracking to the affiliate but is potentially eliminating the search engines abilities to tag these links as affiliate links or 'dinging' my site(s) for being an affiliate site. |

The only potential drawback about this is that we'll now need to check source-code of potential link partners to make sure that they are not linking back to 'US' using the nofollow...
I've started using this on the outbound links to potential partners... as people link back to the site I've linked to them from I remove the 'nofollow' this way I'm not passing ANY benefit to the sites that are not linking back to me :) |

Only recently, I read a comment from Matt Cutts, stating that the “no follow” tag should be added to the paid links all over the site so that no PR is transferred to the advertising site.
I wish to comment that why there is such a statement form his side?
New sites take support from the paid listings in the initial phases. Now, if Google ignores such links the new sites will take time to get established, and hence a delay in setting up their business. It is really strange to that this is how Google follows its “Don’t do evil” policy.
It seems to me that Google is indirectly, directing all the advertising options to its site. After paid listings, adwords are the only option left. So, users are forced to opt for adwords for increasing the site visibility.
And it’s a well proven fact that how “Adwords have been a major source of revenue for google”. |
