Metatags are generally not used and can be safely ignored by all SEO's. Metatags have not been used for serious ranking purposes since the 1990's.

One valid meta tag that is seldom used is the Meta Abstract.

[code:1:fd138d3f00]<META NAME="abstract" CONTENT="abstract here">[/code:1:fd138d3f00]

Abstract is similar to the Meta Description tag, except as the name suggests would contain an abstract of your website page content, with more information than a description tag.

I'd love to hear of case studies or examples of this use in active websites.
