the best way to add links is to create a directory with different categories related to your main site. There are many options out there for this, including server based and client based programs to help with it.
one server based product is http://sourceforge.net/projects/phplinks/

Avoid banners - they take up too much space, generally look non-professional and crappy!
Generally speaking most sites will not link back to you without something in return - it is of course dependant on how resourceful your site is... if it's just some retail site then expect nothing for free. |

You dont have to trade banners, trading links is fine. A good way to do this is to look in the google directory, find your category, and politely ask some of those websites if they would swap with you.

If you want to use a script to create your directory that is good. But ensure that the pages this script generates are easy for search engines to spider.
You can also use a program such as Arelis however, be very carefull with a program like this. You don't just want to email everybody that has a website. Keep your directory VERY targeted and related to your website! |
