Hi! I've been observing this Google thing with my sites (I'm not much of a G fan myself, I have been treated better by Yahoo) but anyway, I noticed that without making any mayor changes to my sites (aside from improving my tags) and only because some posts of mine appeared in forums (because I want to learn, so I'm asking questions) all of a sudden I "exist" for Google. How come? I hear is only SEO,SEO, SEO and "strong links", but why did the bots suddenly "liked" me? Is it a coat-tailing thing? Is that what people mean me when they talk about "strong links" (though they never specifically mentioned it)?
Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Sometimes it's simply a matter of time before google will pick up a site.
I would imagine that in part that you were picked up due to your sites' association with ieasysite.com - the bots usually pick up sites on shared hosting even if no one is linking to the site proper.

FYI; I suggest if you want your site to prosper for the long term:

- get your own domain name - they're cheap if you go somewhere like clubwebhost.com - get a name with your, or some of your, keywords in the name.

- get your own hosting - so that with your name you're actually establishing 'your site' as opposed to riding on the tail of ieasysite.com - this isn't a whole lot different that using geocities, tripod, other free site type places - how many geocities, tripod, or ieasysite sites can you find in the top of the SEs?

- get some related sites to link to you; you'll probably need to link back to them so that they'll link to you.
Look for link partners that are accepting link exchanges and that rank high in Google, and the other SEs, for keywords you would like to be found under. (Here's where you'll get some potentially strong links).

If you build a quality content rich site, have some related sites linking to you and read the forums for the 'SE/SEO happenings' this will head your site in the right direction without much need for an SEO.

Just my 2 cents...

best,
john

Than you for your tips! 8) I do have my doubts about certain things, though. Among our sites, there is one with a domain name and it gets "pushed" just as the others, but it's not doing as well as the others. In fact, one of our most popular sites is the one with the longest URL and a name in Latin (rexfam). I still think it's CONTENT, CONTENT, CONTENT!
Take care! :D

yes, this should be your mantra: links and text. Its all about creating a great site with a fair amount of content that people will link to.

Thanks! It has taken me a little bit to get the hang of it but I think I'm beginning to understand the Internet (at last!)
Take care!
