Comprehensive listing of directories where you can submit your website. DMOZ is the most well known, but many other quality niche directory web sites exist.

Another great, and easy, directory and minor search engine(s) submission area can be found on ineedhits.com - use the free one...

I would suggest using a freemail address - yahoo, hotmail, etc... account as 'your email address' or you will get some spam.

There are a couple of submissions like to webcrawler that you do have to confirm or the submission will not go through - these will be sent to whatever email address you use when signing up.

I can't really say how much traffic or other that submitting to these will contribute, but what the heck - it takes about 10-15 minutes tops to submit to about 50 directories and SEs - so if nothing else you'll potentially get some exposure for a time min investment of time.

excellent comment - always use a non primary email address for submitting to these secondary resources - they always collect and/or sell their email databases!

I am not so sure that it is effective though! I have tried it out before to submit to that many search engines, but I don't think we ever received one visitor from it. I'd love to hear from someone who actually did!

getting directory links is usually better for the link itself rather than the traffic it drives to your site.

Yes, that is true because it will also help with your link popularity.
