Read what a somewhat recent article in CNet News has to say regarding the Yahoo - Inktomi buyout.

[quote:706a3bf92c]Analysts speculate that Inktomi's algorithmic search technology could be refined enough to replace Google as Yahoo's default provider. Yahoo's relationship with Google has been transforming from partner to competitor now that Google has become one of the most popular destinations for Web searches. ~ CNet News 3/03

I think it is great that google will have some competition, but i doubt that inktomi will be anywhere near the quality of google even after yahoo spends millions of dollars improving it. Google is simply the best of breed search engine, has no banners, is a superfast no bullsh*t search engine that does not try to force paid content on its users.

Yahoo is serving more popups than porn sites and is more banner laden than the I-5 freeway. There is no way they could provide a more relevant user experience.

another article that provides educated guesses on the direction of Yahoo + Inktomi. The short answer is nothing is happening soon.

There is also a fair amount of speculation that Yahoo may purchase Overture.
This would have drastic effects for MSN (who uses select Overture results) who would not want to be part of any venture with a competitor (Yahoo!).
