Many people are familiar with the Search tool available from Overture.
Unfortunately, too many people use this to base their search engine optimization campaign off of.

http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

It is only good for rough estimates and should not be used for detailed analysis, beceuse it only gives an approximation of the number of searches done with its paid network.

I agree absolutely not only is it an estimate of the searches but also it's last month's data.

I personally have found that if you base your site optimization completely on overture's searches from last month that the terms can vary enough that you could be optimizing for something few people are actually searching for this month.

You get far more useful data from Adwords, since they tell you how many *clicks* to expect, and it's based on a much larger volume of searches. So many of the low-volume search terms on Overture are inflated by bid-checking and rank-checking software.

Even on Wordtracker, we've stopped trusting anything with very low search counts, because we keep seeing truly absurd search terms (stuff like 'barber shop on Avenue C in Philadelphia') which are obviously the product of rank checking, and not real searches. Besides, I think that barber shop closed down a long time ago.

Any time a 5-word search term shows more searches than a 2-word search term that's contained within, we just toss it out, and forget about trying to optimize for it.
