Linking is a very tricky activity. Since links are so important to the major search engines, you need to make sure your site has them. However, you should not link to any site that solicits you

* directly related to you
* has quality content, good information, and clear contact information. If the website owners wish to remain anonymous, how do you know they are who they say they are?
* site has a Google Page Rank - (the little green bar on the Google Toolbar)
* high PR is not necessary, it is more important to have quality, related incoming links

* already links to half the world - stay away from anything resembling a link farm, or that indiscriminantly links, or promiscuously links. Just because someone asks, does not mean you must submit!
* hosted on a free server such as geocities. These sites have the tendency to dissapear.
* Non stop ads, banners, and promotions
* hidden text and a regular site structure (no flash or (JavaScript navigation)
