I'm using invision board v 1.1.2 for a forum and I wanted to make sure I did everything right so that google will index it. I downloaded a package and set it up from http://mods.ibplanet.com/db/?act=mod&id=775 .

I've removed the session ids, and the urls look like http://myforum.com/show.php/act/SF/f/2 which loads show.php which looks at the url, parses it and loads it by calling:
[code:1:b80b823889]header("Location: $base_url?".$redirect);[/code:1:b80b823889]

That then loads http://myforum.com/index.php?act=SF&f=2& .

To me it looks like a redirect, and I know Google doesn't like that, but is this the same thing? From what I've read, this is supposed to work.
You click on a link that looks like http://myforum.com/show.php/act/SF/f/2 and then http://myforum.com/index.php?act=SF&f=2& loads into the browser.

Scott, congratulations on getting the forum up!

Removing the session ID is a good idea, more importantly its best to not let the forum look like one. Remove all branding and links that make it look like a forum (IE remove invision realated info)

Also, the main problem Google has with forums is their tendency to be link farms. Either disable links to external sites or make the links go through a blind link feeder such as this

http://ask-marketing-experts.com/forums/redirect/jump.php?url=http://services.google.com/froogle/

this removes the connection between the link and the originating website. i can send you the code if you wish.
