Hi all,

Following the most recent Google update, as you may know of or have experienced yourself, many sites were ousted from the prized top 10 spots.

Did your site get booted out of Google?
No, likely not...

As pointed out in another post [url=http://www.ask-marketing-experts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=99]Google Florida Update[/url]; the Google search results for many search terms are about as screwy as can be right now and if your site's now gone you've probably seen some of these screwy and non-relative search results as they're now in 'your spot.' This will all balance out it's simply a matter of time.

I've witnessed this happen 1-2 times/year, for the past few years, as Google's updated their indexes and have included changes.
Normally the results balance out in a few days to a month or so...
No, that's not going to help your site much in the mean time, and indeed once all is balanced back out you may no longer hold your previous position... BUT the thing I've seen far too many people do in instances like this, and they've ultimately screwed themselves, is rush in and start making changes to their sites to try and get back in the previous search position - when all is said and done you may be right back where you were; if you just leave your site alone and wait for Google to get their act together. (those using nefarious SEO tactics should take this as a warning and stop using them asap or you may be caught now)...

They will balance out and they will do it as quickly as they can.. it is their business. They do stand to lose money as people go elsewhere for the search results.

I know some folks that are now no longer using Google to search and are stopping their Google AdWords campaigns as a protest to their free listings in the SERPs disappearing.
One slowly building and likely WRONG premise is that Google's screwed the search results to force people into buying AdWords. Yeah, it's a possibility, but HIGHLY unlikely...

Updates like this are common, totally messed up I know, but I would suggest if you've lost your Google search result placement. Hang in there. I relate to your pain - I'm losing substancial income right now myself as we lost a couple excellent spots for a couple of our sites - but this'll pass as it's the nature of Google.

If you've lost a site's position (meaning #1 to NOWHERE) please lemme know what general theme your site was, i.e. real estate, hosting, financial, insurance, etc... I would be interested in knowing. Many sites that have now been misplaced all fall into certain themes.
(If you went from #2 to #20 - that's not abnormal - I'm looking for large losses in ranking) ~ thx...

After reading the article at http://www.searchenginewatch.com/searchday/article.php/3114531 , it seems as if that is exactly what is happening. For example, if you search for 'laptop computer zxzxzxzx' you get no results. Saying no results have laptop and computer and zxzxzxzx. So, then if you search for 'laptop computer' and 'laptop computer -zxzxzxzx' the results should be the same because both are looking for pages with only the words laptop and computer. It looks as if Google has targeted commercial search terms and removed commercial listings for those terms. Is there any other conclusion that can be made from this?

A funny thing just happened - the stemming trick has been disabled.

I do not believe google is extorting money out of commercial sites. I DO believe however that the founders enjoy watching all the SEO's squirm and develop ulcers because of this current situation.

Google is a very childlike company, and they are of the personality to do this just to let the world know they can. Major changes are occuring to the algorithm, but i do not believe it is over. The G directory is NOT updated at present! changes are still happening i believe.

Here's a cool tool - http://www.scroogle.org/ - that lists how many sites on a given query have dropped out of the top 100 since the last index.

i've tried this tool and it appears to use the stemming filter:

keyword phrase -nonsensegobbledook

This produces very unscientific results, but shows that there is some kind of e-commerce filter in place. Now some searches have froogle links at the top!

be careful, dont type in scroogle dot com if you are not an adult
